the Kennedy Center [the Kennedy Center] (also fml the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts)
a US national cultural centre in Washington, DC, on the ↑Potomac River near the ↑Lincoln Memorial. It was opened in 1971 as a ‘living memorial’ to President ↑Kennedy. The main theatres are the Concert Hall, the Opera House and the Eisenhower Theater. Since 1978, Kennedy Center Honors have been awarded for special artistic achievements.
